Himalayan Salt Crystals & Lamps- Hype or Health
If I am being perfectly honest the first thing that draws me to an Himalayan Salt Lamp is that beautiful glow which it emits and not the alleged health benefits.
Sadly in a world that often has others seeking a marketing or quick cash opportunity these lamps can often be created artificially and there is no way of telling if yours is a salt version or other.
The fact that some will claim that they help you sleep better, and can assist in improving your mood and air quality are unfortunately not tested or proven statements. I think you would need almost a whole room full or better still a cave to create any real effective reversal to these claims.
However as I said earlier, the calming glow and decorative effect that these lamps bring to a room is a plus in my book! Especially on the darker days as we journey through Autumn into Winter.
Which leads me onto Himalayan Salt to use in cooking. Here in the UK it became known on our television through a celebrity chef who sells as salt grinder full of the pink crystals on supermarket shelves. Again is it just hype?
I have heard of cases where a poor quality salt has been dyed pink, in some instances even glass being put in there! Ouch!
So who do we believe, when we are fed a barrage of conflicting information daily.
Sodium of any kind is not something we should be looking to increase in our diets on a daily basis. Often I will use a Cornish or Welsh Sea Salt that has been harvested…yes you guessed… by hand from the Sea herself and this is equally as good as Himalayan Pink salt, lovely flaky white crystals which are high in Iodine so that a mere pinch is needed. A lot of processed foods, and cereals already contain salt so we don’t really want to add to it.
I think pink Salt has become fashionable on the table but other hand harvested flakes from your own shores are equally as healthy and look great in a little condiment dish alongside coarsely ground black pepper.
Equally I've been exploring their energy as a mineral salt crystal on its own. The same as you would have quartz or amethyst crystals placed around your home. When I attended a Mind Body Spirit Fair there was a lovely chap there selling a range of lamps but he also had chunks of salt in a bowl. Some were white others were pink. He asked me to hold a pink crystal in each hand and to see if I could feel an energy or sensation. Then to compare with the white crystals. Interestingly the white crystal gave a subtle soft energy, light and floaty. Whereas the pink was more dense, heavy.
As something that is produced by nature I guess it will pick up a vibrational energy from what is around it. Plus I'd never really thought placing salt crystals in my home. Yet I think they might be of a benefit similar to gem crystals in terms of when held they could offer an energy. If anything like the lamp, they give off a beautiful colour combination and look lovely which makes me smile and feel happy.
Everything is objective and some users of the lamps may find a benefit. I like them because of their glow and natural form. Let me know your thoughts?
