Body Care- Getting ready for Summer
It’s that time of year again when we start to think about the bliss of welcoming in longer and warmer days ahead.
We shed off the thick layers that have kept us wrapped and protected over the winter months, and begin to focus on softer, lighter clothes and footwear that doesn't reach up to our knees!
Now is the perfect opportunity to start adding a few body care rituals into your daily cleansing routine. Our skin will be more exposed to the elements, so a little prep will not only make you feel good but look good too!
Try a Japanese Wash cloth/towel to slough off those dead skin cells that sit on the upper surface of your skin. Mine is an original from Osaka in Japan (pictured white in the picture) they tend to be rectangular and long in length so that you can scrub across your back easily. They create a nice lather if used with a soap and rinse well and can be hung to dry on a hook, their texture is mildly abrasive hence why its perfect to use as a body exfoliator and helps create good circulation as with any type of body brushing always work from your feet up towards your heart. A coarse looped hand mitt can be great for the legs, thighs, abdomen and upper body, again use with a soap and it lathers well plus you can massage as you go which will give an added boost to your circulation and leaves your skin feeling beautifully soft. Mine is from Neals Yard Remedies and uses natural flax fibres click here to order from my consultant page http://uk.nyrorganic.com/shop/meadowsweet
Natural pumice stone can be great for more stubborn areas where hard skin builds such as elbows and feet. They are quite rough hence only suitable for tough areas else they could cause softer skin to graze. I certainly wouldn’t recommend them for all over body care.
Switch up your products to using handmade soaps that lift and energise with the seasons. Including essential oils such as lime, grapefruit and lemon.
Once you have lathered and exfoliated, pat yourself dry and slather on a nourishing rich body lotion. I stock this one in my shop, it has a lovely scent reminiscent of English Rose Gardens in full bloom in the summer. This body oil is thick and luxurious and will leave your skin feeling super soft and smelling beautiful and comes in a generous size bottle that will last! Plus it is by a lovely small independent on Dartmoor, Devon so you’ll be supporting a UK small business too! Remember to to protect your skin with a decent SPF suncream, taking care to massage into exposed areas around your neckline, ears and even eyelids ( you can now get specific creams for the eyes) particulalrly if you have short hair or long hair that gets worn up a lot. its surprising how we forget to put the cream all the way around our neck and our upper back.
Enjoy the months ahead and showing off your legs and feet!
